"He's not entirely out of the woods yet." Aiden perked up, looking to the male doctor who had spoken up. The man gulped audibly, spooked by the hybrid's inhuman eyes, but forced himself to continue. "The shock will take some time to wear off completely, and the broken wing will need to be monitored, but he should make a full recovery." The naga's nostrils flared, searching for falsehood in the doctor's scent. Nervous, but truthful. The former marksman nodded, settling back on the bed. "Good." He paused a moment, yellow-eyed gaze turning to the unconscious man that had tried to attack the bird, bound up with zip-ties and a gag made from Lana's tie. "What about him?" "Well... We'll have the police come in, run a background check, maybe call up one of the Officers if they're not too busy..."

Hermes fumbled until he could grip Aiden's hand, giving it a tiny squeeze.

Feeling that gentle squeeze, the hybrid returned his attention to the winged boy, giving a small smile as he shifted his grip to squeeze back before looking back up to the nervous doctor. "I'll stay here. Just in case." The man made to protest, but hearing that warning buzz of the naga's rattle had the color draining from his face. He looked to the little Asian in black, then the female doctor, and swallowed hard upon realizing the decision was being left to him. "Ah, alright. Probably for the best, anyway..." That said, the doctor near fled the room, orderly trailing after him like a loyal guard dog. The woman gave a short, irritated huff, tossing a sharp glare at the former marksman before stalking out of the room with the air of an affronted pet cat. Aiden glared after her, rattle buzzing a warning. He very much did not like the woman, and from the way Lana stiffly held the door open, the little Asian had a similar impression.

Hermes closed his eyes briefly. It would take a little while for his body to heal. He didn't have any regeneration like most of the Deputies did. Which made sense, he wasn't a Deputy. He was just a little winged boy.

With the others out of the room, Aiden finally let himself relax, slumping down on the bed with a tired groan. "Doctors creep me out..."

Hermes nodded slowly. He understood. Completely. He gave Aiden's hand a little squeeze again, staring up at the ceiling.

It took a good 20 minutes for the police to arrive, at which point Aiden went from protective to downright hostile, rattle buzzing loudly as he heaved himself fully onto the gurney, coiling around the injured bird to defend him from the gun-toting officers who carted away the bound man. After that, though, the room fell quiet, Lana guarding the door in silence, and the night's excitement caught up with the naga. Still curled protectively around the wing-child, Aiden tiredly snuggled a bit closer to the warmth of the little bird, giving a weary sigh as he looped an arm around the Hermes' thin frame and rested his head on the boy's shoulder, though he was careful to keep his heavy tail from lying on top of the injured messenger. "M glad you're a'right, Hermes."

Hermes cuddled into his coils, gently petting the smooth scales. He was glad, despite everything that had happened, he was happy it did, or else he wouldn't be cuddled up with Aiden right now.

Thankfully, the rest of the night passed without incident, so when Don and Jo arrived the next morning to check up on things, they found Lana half-dozing in a chair holding the door closed and Aiden fast asleep, purring faintly as he cuddled with Hermes. The little Asian jerked awake when the door thudded into her chair, leaping to her feet and dropping into a fighting stance she almost immediately dropped upon seeing who it was. She straightened, her small hands lifting to sign a greeting to her superior. Don nodded, signing back while Jo stepped around him and strode up to the slumbering naga and the winged boy in his care. "So, is the kid in our care now too?"

Hermes' eyes snapped open at the slightest vibration, and he stared at the men over him.

The blonde took a step back, not expecting the bird to wake so quickly. "Whoa! Light sleeper." Don turned at his associate's exclamation, and frowned, rising to his feet. "Our job is to protect Mr. Longstaff, and only Mr. Longstaff. Any acquaintances he makes are not our responsibility." He wouldn't admit it, but the large African-American was still rather irritated by the fact that the wing-child had not only punched him, but scarpered off with his charge. Lana, however, caught on, and nudged her superior meaningfully in the ribs. Meeting the little Asian's judgmental gaze, Don gave a short huff. "We may consider it if Mr. Longstaff wishes and the boy is in agreement."

Hermes frowned a bit. As long as he didn't have to live anywhere but his pillow-filled apartment, he would be fine with it.

Unconsciously picking up on the increasingly tense atmosphere, Aiden gave a quiet hiss, rattle buzzing weakly as he curled a bit tighter around the bird, hugging the boy close. Jo gave a soft, slightly nervous laugh. "I don't think we've got any doubts with Mr. Longstaff..."

Hermes would have laughed if he wasn't so tired. He closed his eyes again. There was nothing to do until he was released, and even then he wouldn't be able to fly.

Don gave a soft sigh. a hand lifting to push his sunglasses up as he rubbed at the bridge of his nose. "We won't be able to move out until he wakes. Lana, get some rest, Jo and I will stand guard." The little Asian nodded, offering her superior a grateful smile as she moved to return to her chair, only to pause, picking the chair up to sit down next to the bed. A moment to fold her jacket into a pillow, and the tiny young woman was soon fast asleep, curled up like a cat in the chair.
