Don did little more than quirk a curious brow at the winged boy, striding up to crouch down next to the bench. "Jo just about had a panic attack when he went to check on you and found you gone." The former-marksman cringed, hating how the hulking African-American could make him feel guilty with just a few choice words. "Just wanted some fresh air..."

Hermes folded his arms, glaring dangerously at the man. Was he not the Bird of Night City? The Bird of Hermes? This man was bothering him, and obviously upsetting his new friend.
He was not pleased.

The large suited man gave a soft sigh, going down on one knee. "Aiden, it's our job to make sure you don't get killed. And we can't do our jobs when you're off on your own." "...tired'a bein' cooped up..." "Aiden-" "It's f'my own good, I know, I know. Y'told me the first hundred times." Giving a short huff, the naga slid out from under the bench, eyes averted from the bodyguard's as he plucked at his jacket cuff.

The bird, however, would have none of this. He dug his hand into his bag and pulled out the only important piece of paperwork he carried - a small badge that more or less said that he held higher rank than the bodyguard, he answered to Miles himself. As soon as Aiden was out from under the bench, he grabbed his bag and the naga's wrist and started to drag him off.

Aiden couldn't tell who was more surprised, himself or Don. Truthfully, he'd never actually seen the big African-American pull anything but stoic, so seeing the man caught of guard and actually gaping slightly was rather funny. However, the former-marksman wasn't exactly prepared to move, and the winged boy's attempt to pull him along caused him to unbalance and fall over with a startled squeak.

The little bird helped him back up easily, taking his hand and starting to lead him off, assuring him with a smile and a few tracings of letters on his palm that he was being 'kidnapped' for a night away from the world and in the comfort and care of the one and only Bird of Hermes. He could protect the serpent, and he was confident of it, despite how breakable he was.

"Excuse me, young man, but what do you think you're doing?" Don spoke evenly, calmly, rising easily to his feet and towering over both naga and messenger. Aiden found himself caught in the middle, and felt his rattle buzz nervously as he glanced between the man assigned as his body guard and the winged boy who had treated him kindly though they had only just met.

Hermes fluffed his wings, frowning. He probably couldn't reach well, so he fluttered up until he was eye level with the man. He held up his badge, and shoved it into the man's face. If he could talk, he would simply tell the man that he was taking Aiden for the night at the very least. He would be safe with the most fragile creature in the city.

Don had to back up a pace, tilting his shades down to reveal bright green eyes that gave the hovering boy a bemused look before focusing on the badge. He frowned slightly, pressing the sunglasses back in place. "One of the City's Chosen, I see. I don't doubt your abilities, but Mr. Longstaff's welfare is my team's responsibility. I must insist he comes with me." The naga swallowed, rattle buzzing louder as he gripped the winged child's hand a bit tighter. Body guard the man may be, but Don was still scary.

Hermes growled silently. He was the ranking officer here, and he had the right to make his move. He shook his head, folding his arms. There would be no backing down for him, he'd have to either get violent or convince the man that he could take care of the naga.
Violence sounded like a great idea.

Sensing he wasn't getting through to the bird, Don's frown deepened and he glanced down at Aiden, a gesture that had the former-marksman's insides twisting uncomfortably. "Aiden, I don't begrudge you the need for time to yourself, but it's not safe. Until after the trial, you need to be escorted by either myself or Jo and Lana."

The bird was...
not going to let this go.
His hand flashed out, and he struck the man across the face, knocking his sunglasses to the ground. If he could speak, he would show his anger. How dare this man not only make his new friend uncomfortable, but how dare he deny him the simple right to be alone? To want to be free? He had spent too many years in cages to deny anyone that freedom.
How. Fucking. DARE. He.

For a moment, Don simply froze, startled by the boy's sudden blow, then his eyes narrowed, the color shifting from green to a deep gray as he cracked his knuckles, stance widening. "My apologies in advance, but this has gone too far." Aiden wilted, cringing away from the pair. He'd never seen the man's eyes before, but he knew that tone. It was not a good tone, and he'd only heard it once before, in a diner outside Madison. A diner that no longer existed. If he didn't interfere... The naga moved swiftly, slipping in between Don and Hermes and lifting himself up on his tail to come level with the African-American. "Okay, no need t'fight, 'm comin'..."

Hermes snarled silently. He couldn't talk, and this man was bothering him. He wanted to hit him once more.

Don gave a short huff, the green fading back into his eyes as he straightened, bending a moment to pick up his sunglasses and replace them on his face. "Very well. Come along." He turned, lifting a finger to press upon a hidden button in the earpiece of his glasses. "Package retrieved. Unharmed. Returning momentarily." Aiden gave a soft sigh, relieved to have diffused the incoming fight but saddened that he would have to leave his new friend behind. Lowering down to his normal height, he tugged a moment at his jacket, eyes to the ground. "Ah, it was nice meetin' ya, Hermes..." That said, the naga moved to follow his body guard, wishing he could have stayed longer.
